Located between Dhaulagiri ranges and Tibetan Plataeau, Dolpo is a mesmerizing and naturally mystic place. Culturally Tibetan and situated in high elevation, Dolpo region is the upper part in the biggest district (valley) of Nepal, Dolpa. Some part of the region falls in the Shey Phoksundo national park. Trekking in Dolpa, not just Dolpo region was restricted for foreigners till 1989, in 1989 it was opened for organized trekking. And even till today upper Dolpo is one of the less done treks but more than worth it. The villages are interesting, so are the people, there are some high Himalayan passes, the deepest lake in Nepal; Shey Phokdsundo, incredible landscapes, mountain views and so much more. This upper dolp trek gives you one of you life’s most treasurable experiences. Upper Dolpo is a secret and sacred region, only connected to the outside world by Juphal airport, you get see so a part of Himalaya which is untouched and fascinating.
Main attractions: As this trek as a whole is an out of ordinary trek, there is nothing to be disappointed of, of course if you are looking for leisure than it can’t be helped. Shey Phoksundo Lake is 145m deep at 3,612 m of elevation and is one of the main attractions of this trek, alpine fresh water surrounded by mountains, stupas and Gompas, it is no ordinary lake. Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Churen (7,371m), Nilgiris(7,061m).,Kanjiroba (6,883m), Machhapuchre ( 6,993m) are some one the mountains that will present themselves in all their glory in several viewpoints along the trek. The region in inhabited by Tibetan Buddhists, Buddhism and Bon are religions of the region, so you will also witness quite a bit of cultural significance. Flora and fauna of the high Tibetan plateau are in abundance here. It is one of the remotest places in Nepal that means it is a full camping trek with adventure. We start with a flight to Jhupal, and that itself is a spectacle.
Best season: Like most Himalayan treks, spring which falls from March to May and September to October in autumn or fall are the best seasons for the trek. If you are botany enthusiast then you can do this trek in Monsoon which falls from June to August, Himalayan treks are not advised during monsoon but as Upper Dolpo falls in the Himalayan rain shadow under Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, there will hardly be too much rain.

We start our journey by taking a flight from Kathmandu to Nepagunj (1 hour). Overnight at a hotel in Nepalgunj
We start our 4th day with another flight, from Nepalgunj to Juphal (2,400m), a 35 minutes long flight. Juphal airport is the only point connecting Dolpa to the outside world. We trek from Juphal to Dunai (2,150m), it is a fairly easy 3 hours trek. Overnight in tents
We start our adventure, 6 hours of trekking from Dunai to Ankhe (2,660m). Overnight in tents
We trek for 7 hours to reach Renje (3,104m) from Ankhe. Overnight in tents.
From Renje we trek for 6-7 hours approximately to reach magnificent Phoksundo lake at 3,600m. Overnight in tents like previous days
We trek for 6 hours from Phoksundo lake to Phoksundo khola(3,507m). Overnight in tents
We trek for approximately 7 hours to reach Phoksundo Bhanjyang (4,402m) from Phoksundo Khola. Overnight in tents.
We cross the Kang La Pass at 5,151m and then trek to Shey Gompa at 4,126m altogether in approximately 7 hours. Overnight in tents.

We cross the Saldang La Pass at 4,75m and move on to Namduna Gaon situated at 4,400m in altogether 7 hours approximately. Overngiht in tents.
We trek for 4 hours from Namduna Gaon to reach Saldang (3,903m). Overnight in tents just like previous days
We trek for 6 hours from Saldang to Sibu (3,942m). Overnight in tents.
About 5 hours of trekking to the foot of Jeng La. Overnight in tents.
In altogether 7 hours approximately we cross the Jeng La Pass at 4,45m and reach Tokyu Gaon at 4,240m. Overnight in tents
We trek for 4.5 hours to Dho Tarap (4,090m). Overnight in tents.
We trek to Serkam (3,630m) in 6-7 hours. Overnight in tents
From Sekram Khani Gaon (2,550m) , we trek for about 7 hours. Overnight in tents.
We trek from Khani Gaon to Tarakot (2,281m) in about 4 hours. Overnight in tents
From Tarakot we come to Dunai (2,052m) in about 5 hrs. Overnight in our very own tents, will start feeling like home at this point
From Dunai, we trek to Juphal (2,404m) in about 3 hrs. Overnight in tents, our portable homes
