Exploring the high and above Khumbu valley to picturesque Gokyo lakes .
The Gokyo Lake Trek is one of Nepal’s most breathtaking journeys, offering an unforgettable adventure through the Khumbu region. Set beneath some of the world’s tallest peaks, including Mount Everest, the Gokyo Lakes are a collection of beautiful turquoise glacial lakes, surrounded by towering mountains and glaciers.
Arrive at Kathmandu International Airport, where your guide will welcome you and take you to your hotel in the bustling Thamel area. Once you’ve checked in and settled, join a group briefing where your guide will share details about the trek, accommodations, and local customs. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Nepali dinner paired with a cultural performance, giving you a taste of Nepal’s rich heritage.
After breakfast, set out on a tour of Kathmandu’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Begin at Durbar Square, exploring its ancient temples and monuments, then visit Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple) for panoramic city views. Next, head to Pashupatinath Temple, a sacred Hindu site, and finish at Boudhanath Stupa (Little Tibet), one of the largest stupas in the world. The rest of the day is yours to prepare for the trek and organize your gear.
In the morning, head to the domestic airport for a scenic flight to Lukla. After landing, start your trek through charming Sherpa villages decorated with colorful prayer flags. Cross the Dudh Koshi River and walk through Benkar and Phakding villages before stopping for your first overnight stay in Phakding.
Today, you’ll trek to Namche Bazaar, the main center of the Khumbu region. Along the way, you’ll cross several suspension bridges and pass through Sagarmatha National Park. Stop for lunch in Jorsalle before continuing uphill to Namche Bazaar. Once there, settle into a lodge with stunning views of Kwangde and Thamserku peaks for your overnight stay.
Spend the day acclimatizing to the higher altitude. Take a short hike up Namche Ridge for amazing views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam. If you’re feeling up for it, you can trek to the Everest View Hotel for an even closer look at Mount Everest. The rest of the day is yours to relax or explore the shops and cafes in Namche Bazaar.
From Namche, take the trail that diverts off from the main Everest route. After about an hour of uphill walking, reach Mong Hill, a great spot to enjoy the views. Continue down to Phortse Tenga, where you’ll stop for lunch. In the afternoon, trek through a forested trail that leads to Dole, a small village with cozy lodges where you’ll spend the night.
Today’s trek is short but steep, with stunning views of the surrounding peaks. You’ll continue your journey through the valley and reach Machhermo, where you’ll stay overnight in a comfortable lodge.
From Machhermo, continue your journey toward Gokyo Lake. The trail takes you through breathtaking landscapes as you pass the first lake. As the valley opens up, you’ll be treated to stunning views of Cho Oyu (8,201 m), the sixth-highest mountain in the world.
Begin the day with a hike up Gokyo Ri (5,357 m), where you’ll be rewarded with some of the most stunning panoramic views of the Himalayas, including Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. After taking in the incredible scenery, head back down to Gokyo for a relaxing afternoon, enjoying the beauty of the turquoise lakes and the vast Ngozumpa Glacier.
Today, leave Gokyo and trek down to Phortse Village for your overnight stay. Along the way, enjoy new views of the surrounding mountains and walk through picturesque Sherpa villages, offering a glimpse into the local way of life.
From Phortse, trek down to Monjo, passing through Namche Bazaar along the way. The trail offers beautiful views of the mountains and winds through the lush forests of the Khumbu region. You'll spend the night in Monjo.
On the final day of trekking, head back to Lukla, where you’ll spend the night in a lodge. The trail takes you through charming villages and beautiful, green forests, offering a peaceful end to your journey.
In the morning, catch your flight back to Kathmandu, where you’ll be transferred to your hotel. The afternoon is free for leisure or last-minute shopping in Kathmandu.
Today is set aside as a backup day in case of flight delays. If everything goes as planned, you can use the day to explore Kathmandu at your own pace, visit local attractions, or simply relax.
Head to the airport for your flight home, bringing your Gokyo Lake Trekking adventure to a memorable close.
The flight to Lukla and back to Kathmandu, where flight can be delayed or might get postponed for next morning. Due to unfavorable weather conditions around mountainous region of Himalayas, can happen sometimes even in best time of the season. The best time for the Gokyo Lake Trek is in autumn (September to November) or spring (March to May). During these months, the weather is stable, and the skies are clear, allowing for perfect views of the surrounding mountains.
