Overview

Jomsom Muktinath Trek
Know Jomsom-Muktinath: Jomsom, the famous headquarter of Mustang District, is a gateway to the famed Muktinath temple, a holy pilgrimage destination for Hindus and Buddhists. Situated on the bank of the Kaligandaki River, this town and its vicinities are one of the most famous tourist destinations in the country. The Jomsom-Muktinath trek covers the final trails of the much heard Annapurna circuit trek and takes you through natural wonders worth remembering for a lifetime. The town of Jomsom is at the banks of the Kaligandaki river and the Muktinath temple is at a day’s walk from Jomsom (5-6 hours to be precise). There are two ways people normally complete this trek. One technique is to walk all the way to the destination from Nayapul (40 Km from Pokhara) and fly back to Pokhara after the tour is completed and the other way is to fly to the destination first and then walk your way down. The latter is the lesser used method as trekkers seek ascent rather than descent.
You will travel through the deepest gorge on earth on your way to Jomsom. The area surrounding the gorge, made by the Kali Gandaki River, is also home to many exotic flora and fauna. You will walk past the red Rhododendron forests, pine woods and dreamy waterfalls on your travel. The sight of the Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and the Nilgiri mountains (all among the highest in the world) will ease your pain away. The latter part of the trek is characterized by barren landscapes. Desert like mountains but with snow on them are a sharp contrast to the previous days of verdant greenery. The trek takes you past the famous and historic villages of the ethnic Gurung and Thakali people. Night stays in villages are awesome. Local food and drink will be served in a unique way so as to address your altitude issues. Monasteries and temples are in numbers on the way and they impart serenity in one’s thoughts. In Tato-Pani (literally meaning Hot Water) you can take bath in natural hot water springs.
The Muktinath temple is a famous holy place. People come here to take bath in the celebrated 108 waterfalls that have been channelized to taps. This is one of the most iconic tours Nepal has to offer for its beloved travellers.
